I find that this post gets a lot of redirects from Google. So here is some more information:

Lives in the Shadow, when I first read it, seemed to me a compassionate book despite the bitterness that marred the relationship of the Rajagopals and JK towards the end. But, at that point, my source of background information was just what Radha offered. Over the years since reading Lives in the Shadow I have read many other books on JK, biographies as well as compilations of his speeches, notebooks, journals etc.

JK was a remarkable man. And if you are really interested in getting a perspective on the Rajagopals facet of JK's life I suggest that you also look up other books, particularly the Mary Lutyens refutation of Lives in the Shadow.

Why not? It is similar to asking friends for brand recommendations or restaurants to check out etc. That doesn't mean you will never impulse buy. Likewise.

That said, I must point out what an interesting exercise reading several reviews of a book is, especially if you do it one after another. A lot of the reviewing is formulaic and then, someone surprises you with a nice insight. I enjoy it.

Sankar, I think if one knows the titles one wants to buy then flipkart scores well (I fall into this category.) If one goes to a bookstore and chooses what to buy after browsing, then, of course, no question about it. Bookstore visit scores. Personally speaking, I browse excerpts, reviews etc on the Web. Hardly ever discover books at the store and most certainly never in the newly arrived or bestsellers section. Anyway.
