Children Are Bored on Sunday

is a brilliant short story by Jean Stafford. This is the first of her works that I read (listened rather) and I was very impressed and amused by the way she presents her story.

Children Are Bored on Sunday appeared in the New Yorker in the 1950s as did many other short stories of Stafford. The audio version of the story can be downloaded here (actually most of the stories in the New Yorker Fiction podcast are worthy of your time)

Not to pick or anything -- but it was first published in 1948. I do agree with you -- I was caught thinking, 'Man, someone has written what I thought was my masterpiece, 60 years ago'.

Ah thanks. 1948.
