The Curious Incident of a September Release

Hmm...why does this famous person's much anticipated second novel have to release in September 2006? Why not earlier when much could have been stirred? Now an encore is his only chance.

It does seem like he must have been in a spot of bother. For random bits from this September release, read on.

May be I'm wrong, but I get a feeling Children's books/ Young Adults books are viewed less seriously by the Booker Prize committee. And it is a sad state of affairs. Lemony Snicket and Eoin Colfer and Jostein Gaarder would have never made it, even to the longlist, no matter how many adults savour their books (ok, I'm not an adult yet ;))

It's like the Oscar committee not awarding the best actor award to a comedy actor. For that matter until recently Oscars conveniently chose to ignore fantasy films/ sci-fi genre, no?

P.S. Much awaited Spot of bother indeed.

Hmm...good point. Somehow it never struck me. Mark Haddon was longlisted for The Curious Incident but he did not make it to the shortlist, which seems odd.

Again, wouldn't,say, Gaarder's nationality disqualify him from a Booker selection?

oh, i finished spot of bother. frankly the release date wouldn't have mattered.

it is well written and funny in places, but will not shake anyone's world.

@heartless poet: Okay. I was at Landmark last week and spent some time browsing A Spot of Bother. It did seem intriguing. But yeah, a good book and a scintillatingly crafted great book are two different things.

About me

  • I'm Echo/Lavanya
  • From Chennai, India
  • So, we are curious now? My folks named me Lavanya, and it does have a meaning. I named myself Echo, for this blog. And that has a meaning too. Therefore, I have more than one name; I can walk; I can talk; I can read; I can even write; I can count - 9 'I's already and that is absolutely disgusting; I can also lie about numbers. Do you need to hear more?
