There were years when Atlas Shrugged was my daily Bible. Those years are long gone now, mere fond memories when someone mentions the book. I no longer defend Rand's view vehemently nor do I discuss the merits of Francisco D'Anconia vs John Galt. I loved Dagny Taggart far more than the rest, not because she was the main character but because I appreciated how she stood for what she believed in. All of this is past tense, of course.
Therefore I never realized that I could be this irritated when I read that Angelina Jolie may play Dagny's part in Atlas Shrugged the movie. Oh Please, not her. I like Jolie okay but I cannot imagine myself watching her play Dagny. Give me Ashley Judd any day.
PS: I hope you can read this post using its url because I certainly can't. I am now a subscriber to my own blog's feed. Sigh.
Let me try to imagine who would play the characters if the move is in Tamil.
Hank Rearden - has to be Raghuvaran, can't think of anyone else.
Fracisco D'Anconia - Surya (as he looked in Ghajini before amnesia)?
John Galt - seriously can't think of any one.
Dagny Taggart - Suhasini (as in Mandhil Urudi Vendum)?

Chenthil: Raghuvaran is an amazing choice. He fits very well with the Rearden character. Perfect. Surya as D'Anconia is also very convincing. Actually I think Surya could carry off Galt too. Maybe Vikram will make a good John Galt?
Dagny - always the tough one to choose. Suhasini as in MUV is also convincing. But if I were to think of a present day star matching in age with the other choices, how about Kajol?

Surya still has a chocolate boy charm, that won't go with Galt.
Vikram as Galt? Acceptable choice if it is the Vikram prior to Gemini - as he was in Meera, Ullasam.
Kajol - some how I always thought of Dagny as wiry and lean.

You are right - I had a wiry and lean Dagny in mind too. But I imagined the new look Kajol with appropriate make-up and it seemed to fit. Let's see...we just need to send Suhasini on a reverse time machine I think coz I cannot think of anyone else who will fit.
Do you think Manoj Bajpai or Rahul Bose might suit John Galt?

Actually Abhishek Bachchan with a very close crop and a serious face might be a good candidate for Galt too. He does have a good screen presence imho.

Hmm, I am not that avid movie goer and zilch in Hindi movies. Abishek Bachchan can look the part, but can he act?

nana patekar = john galt (he can pull off the screwthesystemandletsdoitmyway pff well)
amir khan = francisco d'anconia (he can easily carry of the playboywithhiddendepths off quite well)
dagny taggart = nandita das (she can go spunkyandspirited with a sprinkle of hidden sensuality)

Of course, Nandita Das. She is perfect for Dagny. Thanks Sisyphus for that great casting. But can't agree with Aamir Khan, he is a tad too old for Anconio.

Ooooooooooh! Nandita Das of course! How could we forget her. I thought of Aamir but he does look old. He will do D'Anconia perfectly though. Nana Patekar eh? Hmm...not my idea of John Galt :( you do realize that all women fall for both D'Anconia and John Galt don't you?
Btw, thanks Sisyphus. You back eh? Sigh - peace oh peace how I shall miss you now! ;)

Still left on Ayan Rand and Atlas Shrugged. :). How many years since you read that? How many times you marketed that to me in convos? And I'm yet to read that..May be a crime to be a reader and still missing Rand after so much of publicity

anon: are you who I think you are? I have recommended and even gifted Rand to many of my friends now (so you can imagine how many of them are out to get me for it!) and if you are who I think you are, I really should have given you a Rand when you went away to Virgin lands.

Hopefully I also think the person you are referring and wrote the comment are same :)). BTW, trying to read one of Rand novels. You marketed Rand very well to me but somehow it's someother person who succeeded in convincing me that I should read Rand. Will let you know once I finish that.
