Will she? Really?
"I am going to write the exam da. I cannot imagine missing it", she told me.
I reacted in utter puzzlement, "You cannot mean that! Surely!"
"Of course I mean it. What else can I do? The next time these papers come, I am not sure I will be in this city", she added.
I could hold off no longer. "But the exam is on your wedding day my dear", my voice rose to a shrill pitch.
She nodded sadly and said, "Right. Luckily the Muhurtam is really early. I can finish that and attend the exam at 10am."
I was speechless by this point. After a few seconds spent in swallowing my disbelief, I said, "All the best lady!"
I still cannot believe that she is going to write an exam on her wedding. Maybe she will change her mind before June. Maybe she won't. Maybe the problem is my single track antique mind :)
well echo, this remains me of
K.Balanchander's movie...the
female characters potrayed by KB
would do some unheard and novel stuff,breaking the norms and
regular conventions of society but for a good, valid or for a noble cause...
I was also thinking for a while,
what work would be there after
early "Muhurtham" upto 10 AM..
The usual centiments would follow,
but anything substantial..I'm
not aware and not seen much..
certain people would take little
time to digest some unusual, unheard things..Any word , u know ??

I readily believe that perspective ;)
There is nothing wrong with exam and a wedding on the same day. In my opinion, it is straining oneself a little too hard. When there are very significant days, it is nice to savor them for just that. Adding an exam to the day puts a lot of pressure. And as I said, I wouldn't do it that way at all :D

VJ - her wedding is on June 1. When I met her a couple of days earlier, she was still determined to write the exam. And the whole story is that she has exams from June 1 - 4. So the first exam is on her wedding day and the last one is on her birthday :)
Will let you guys know next week if she really wrote the paper

Your friend is absolutely nuts to be taking an exam on the day of her marriage. God save her husband

Hey Eroteme - I think she might do away with the garland but I am sure the remnants of the makeup will show on her face. And the mehendi designed to be the brightest on the wedding day will capture the attention of a lot of people. Tomorrow is going to be fun :)
Hey Anonymous - I am still hoping that she takes it easy tomorrow and decides not to go and write the exam at the last minute.

She wanted us to take a day off from work to attend her wedding. When we subtly reminded her that she will be vanishing after the Muhurtam to take her exam, she managed a sheepish grin and left it at that.
She is a smart and sensitive young woman and I respect the fact that her choices are different from mine. However, I am concerned that she is biting off more than she can chew. And I am saying this because I am reasonably aware of other difficulties that she has gone through in the past few months. Given that and the fact that a marriage is definitely a huge emotional challenge, I would be the first one to advise anyone against writing an exam on one's own wedding day.
Look at the case of my friend:
-> 6:00 - 7:30am she gets married
-> 8:30am she sets off to the exam hall
-> 10:00am - 1:00pm she writes her paper
-> 3:00 - 4:30pm (this is a guesstimate) she takes part in her Nalangu function
-> 4:30 - 6:00pm she gets ready for her reception
-> 6:30pm - 9:00pm she stands and smiles non-stop at her reception
-> post 9pm the elaborate ceremony for the wedding night
-> 8:30am the next morning she is off for her second exam paper.
Oh Please - why the pressure?

Hey all! well.. this is the lady that you all have been talkin about so far.
Yup i completed all my four exams successfully. I wrote them well amidst pressures. Both the wedding and the exams have become the memorable events of my life :))
Its a big story as to how i approached them one by one until my birthday and thats when I wrote my last exam.
Nice to know that people discuss about anything and everything in this site. I thought of plunging in and eat up sometime of yours..

Good Lord! You just gave Tamil Serial makers an episode. I dont know if you would be elated or deflated - exactly *this* was an episode of a recent serial, which, I happened to unfortunately catch glimpses of in passing. With some masala added like a villainous bridegroom-and-his-dad, faithful auto-driver-friend-cum-silent-suitor and all.You have a safe alternate career :-)
